BART Board night meeting to be held focusing on parking, budget, and fare gates

The BART Board of Directors will hold its next meeting at night to encourage greater public participation. The March 24th meeting will start at 5pm and will be live streamed on BART.gov. Due to COVID-19 the BART Board has been meeting virtually with public comment available via Zoom or email.

Key topics expected to be discussed at the meeting include:

*Parking policy: The Board is expected to consider whether to initiate a review of the District’s parking policy. The policy covers fees and potential discounts and was last updated in 2013. Any potential changes would not be implemented for at least a year.

*BART budget: The Board is expected to receive an update on federal funding received by BART including an additional $271 million in American Rescue Plan money. An overview of plans to adopt two-year rolling budgets as well as a preview of the Fiscal Years ’23 and ’24 preliminary budget are also planned.

*New fare gates: The Board is expected to receive an update on our efforts to replace fare gates systemwide. An overview on costs, design, next steps, and a timeline will be provided.

*Legislation: Staff will present federal and state legislation that has a nexus to BART policies or programs for consideration.

*Independent Police Auditor: The Board will get an update from BART's Independent Police Auditor
