BART Police arrest two suspects in Saturday shooting

The two suspects in Saturday’s shooting at West Oakland Station are in custody this morning because of an observant BART Police Officer who initiated a safe apprehension.

Officer Francisco Rodriguez was patrolling the Montgomery Street Station platform last night when at 6:50pm he recognized a man and woman wanted for questioning for the shooting on June 25, 2022, which resulted in one victim suffering minor injuries.

Officer Rodriguez contacted the dispatch center and the suspects were taken into custody without incident by a team of officers. The victim positively identified the suspects, and they were transported to Alameda County Jail in Dublin.

Under arrest are:

Selvin Lopez, 3/28/1994, San Francisco, charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Carrying a loaded and concealed firearm, Conspiracy, Possession for sales of narcotics, Carrying a firearm while possessing narcotics, Committing a felony while out on bail or release from incarceration.

Jeysi Sotoguzman, 8/28/2003, Oakland, charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Carrying a loaded and concealed firearm, Conspiracy, Possession for sales of narcotics, Carrying a firearm while possessing narcotics.

Both were issued BART prohibition orders.

BART’s robust camera surveillance system, both in stations and onboard train cars, played a role in the arrest. Police had clear images of the suspects and quickly shared the photos with patrolling officers and partner agencies. With more officers and safety staff walking trains and platforms, The BART Police Department is taking a proactive approach to preventing and solving crimes.
