Public Comment period for Hayward Maintenance Complex Initial Study extended until 8/18/22

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) District invites the general public to provide comments on the HMC 2 Draft Supplemental Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) by August 08, 2022.

BART needs increased maintenance capacity as part of its Fleet of the Future program. The Hayward Maintenance Complex (HMC) will ensure that BART’s maintenance and repair capacity is sufficient to support the new railcar fleet for both the current system and system expansions.

HMC Phase 2 Project, also known as HMC 2, is comprised of two major components East Vehicle Storage Yard and the Northern Mainline Connector.  The proposed Project is located in the City of Hayward adjacent to the BART tracks predominantly between Whipple Road and industrial Parkway.  HMC 2 is part of a plan to increase service through the core of the BART system and keep BART running efficiently, reliably, and safely.

The draft supplemental to the adopted IS/MND (Initial Study /Mitigated Negative Declaration) is now available for your review and comments.  Due to technical problems with the BART project email address, the public review period for the IS/MND has been extended from June 17, 2022, to August 8, 2022.  Email comments sent to BART regarding the HMC2 IS/MND prior to July 1, 2022, should be resent.  BART values and appreciates your comments.  Please submit all written comments and related material by 5:00 PM PST on August 8, 2022.

Please submit questions and comments to: [email protected]

The HMC 2 Draft Supplemental IS/MND public comment meeting will be held on Thursday, July 14th, via Zoom from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Please view here for additional information on the public comment meeting.
