BART makes navigating to OAK Airport easier when trip planning

It’s almost holiday travel season and we are making our trip planning tools easier to use so you know which trains will take you to OAK or SFO airports. OAK is now listed as a destination for the Blue, Green, and Orange lines in our Trip Planner and Schedule by Station feature on bart.gov and our official app.

BART’s digital real-time monitors on station platforms will also soon be updated to list “OAK Airport” on these lines as well. We are working to make these signs match how trains are labelled in trip planning tools.

While traditionally BART has communicated service based on end of line stations, we’ve been incorporating line colors where we can and updating digital tools to make it easier to navigate BART. For example, trains leaving SFO are now labelled “San Francisco/Antioch” for the Yellow line and “Millbrae/SF/Richmond” for the Red line.

We plan to expand our test of platform digital signs that show line color in the coming months. Currently Lake Merritt has these signs. By the end of the year, they will be added at Civic and Powell Street stations.

Changing the permanent directional signs inside our stations is currently an unfunded project, but BART staff is using digital screens, trip planning apps, and decals/posters to improve the customer experience for visitors and infrequent riders.
