Powell Street Station: temporary signage test installation on 5/30
On Friday 5/30, BART crews will be installing temporary test signage at Powell Station's Hallidie Plaza lobby. Installation should be completed by 1pm. Crews will provide pedestrian barricades around the work sites and no pedestrian impacts are anticipated. Test signs are planned to remain in place for approximately one month.
BART and SFMTA (Muni) are collaborating with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission on this signage test as part of the Regional Mapping & Wayfinding Project. This project is harmonizing maps and signs across all of the Bay Area's over two dozen transit agencies. The goal of the project is to make transit easier to navigate, and get riders where they need to go using more consistent and easy to identify signs, maps and communication systems.
New permanent signage has been installed for testing at El Cerrito Del Norte Station and at Santa Rosa's SMART Station and Transit Mall. This test at Powell will help ensure new signage standards work consistently across all transit locations, including the most complex in the Bay Area.
