Rendering of platform

BART is looking at various station improvement options to ease crowding at its two busiest stations – Embarcadero and Montgomery.

BART's average weekday ridership has now surpassed 400,000 per day, and during peak periods almost half of all riders either board or exit at the Embarcadero and Montgomery stations.   Aside from seeing the most foot traffic, these two stations have the smallest platforms in the system.

As part of BART’s Station Modernization Program we are developing a comprehensive redesign of these stations to make the rider experience more comfortable and enjoyable. We want to hear from riders who use these stations.

Join the conversation by attending one of our in-station open-house events or go to the project webpage to see the proposed modernization plan and take an online survey that will help BART prioritize the improvements.

In-station event schedule:
Embarcadero Station
Date: Tuesday; October 28, 2014
Time: between 7 and 10 am and 4 pm to 7 pm

Montgomery St. Station
Date: Thursday; October 30, 2014
Time: between 7 and 10 am and 4 pm to 7 pm

Proposed station improvements include:

  • Building new side platforms on the opposite side of the existing tracks
  • Installing platform screen doors adjacent to the trackway (like on the SFO AirTrain)
  • Reconfiguring platform for more efficient use of space
  • Upgrading elevator and escalators

In addition, BART is identifying other modernization needs at Embarcadero and Montgomery to improve station functionality, safety, access, appearance, and the overall customer experience.
