Entrance Closure Alert: Montgomery Station entrance at New Montgomery and Market closed 1/3/22 for work on new canopy

On Monday, January 3, 2022, our contractor will build a work enclosure around the New Montgomery and Market Street entrance to Montgomery Street Station. The entrance on the southwest side of the station will be closed off to public access for approximately six months while a new protective escalator canopy is built. The canopy will include a digital display to show train arrival times, a new security grille, LED lighting, security cameras, and other improvements. The canopy will mean that our escalator at this entrance will be protected from the elements to help limit breakdowns. We expect work on this canopy to be complete by July 2022.

While this entrance is closed, you will need to use one of the other entrances to the station. Entrances near Post and Montgomery Streets, Post and Market Streets, and Sutter and Sansome Streets will remain open during construction.

Similar work has also temporarily shut down one of the entrances at Powell Street Station. You can learn more about that work here.

Over the next 6-7 years BART will construct 17 other canopies on Market Street over downtown station entrances.  As part of a separate project, new escalators will be installed at each of these locations following the canopy construction.  In addition to protecting new escalators the canopies will improve safety and reduce station maintenance costs.

We thank you for your patience as we work to complete this important construction project.  For more information on this project visit: bart.gov/about/planning/sfentrances
