Temporary fencing to be placed at 24th Street Mission Station plazas, station remains open

At the request of San Francisco Supervisor Hillary Ronen, BART will place temporary fencing around the southwest plaza and the northeast plaza areas of the 24th St. Mission Station. The fencing will be installed on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. The station remains open and accessible including the elevator and all entrances.

BART is cooperating with the city in their request to temporarily narrow the plaza’s public footprint for 60 days to allow time for the city and county of San Francisco to put into place a new street vendor permitting system as part of the city’s new ordinance regulating street vending. The ordinance is meant to disincentivize the resale of stolen goods while supporting permitted street vending. The plazas at 24th St Mission have been an area of concern for city officials, members of the public, and our riders.

Signage will be posted to clearly indicate the station remains open.

The plazas at 24th St Mission offer a vibrant public space and we look forward to working with the city to reopen them while providing a safe welcoming environment.
