Survey for riders impacted by 1/29/25 service disruption between Union City and Bay Fair
On the morning of Wednesday, January 29, BART did not have train service between Union City and Bay Fair stations due to an equipment problem on the trackway. We deeply apologize for this disruption.
In an effort to improve communication during disruptions we are asking impacted riders to take this survey by Monday, February 3, 2025, at 5pm: bart.gov/delays.
Schedules
Track shutdown scheduled for August 17 and 18 in Oakland postponed to September
The track shutdown that had been planned for Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18 between Rockridge, MacArthur, and 19th Street stations has been postponed until September. The next shutdown weekend for the replacement of track switches in the core of the system in Oakland will be Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22.
On the weekend of August 17 and 18, BART will now work on trackway improvements in the Berkeley Hills Tunnel. Service will be reduced from two tracks to one near Orinda Station which will result in delays of up to 10 minutes on both days. Learn more about this work here.
The postponement of the Oakland work will allow BART to further evaluate lessons learned from the first shutdown weekend in June. The goal remains to minimize short term impacts on riders by maximizing work efficiency. Temporary shutdowns of sections of the trackway are necessary for large projects to create a safe workspace for crews while providing a massive boost in productivity thanks to uninterrupted 24/7 work.
It's still anticipated the rebuilding work in Oakland will happen on 18 non-consecutive weekends over the next three years. You can learn more about the project here. The project is part of the Measure RR rebuilding program, which is revitalizing the system’s core infrastructure. This work will benefit riders for decades to come by improving the reliability of the core of BART.

Coliseum Station: San Leandro Street repaving December 2-3
San Leandro Street will be repaved in front of the Coliseum Station from December 2-3/2024. This work will take place in phases.
Phase 1 will take place on Monday Dec. 2nd, with the following changes:
- The east side of San Leandro St. (closest to the BART entrance) will be closed entirely.
- All northbound traffic will be diverted onto 75th Ave, left on Snell St., and left on 69th Ave returning to San Leandro St.
- Passenger loading (except Accessible Loading) will take place on Snell St. next to the BART entrance
- Accessible Loading and Parking will take place at the Amtrak Station parking lot on 73rd Ave. You can reach it by using southbound San Leandro St. and turning right on 73rd Ave.
- All buses, for both directions of travel, will stop on Southbound San Leandro Street.
Phase 2 will take place on Tuesday Dec. 3rd, with the following changes:
- The west side of San Leandro St. (farther from the BART entrance) will be closed entirely.
- All southbound traffic will be diverted onto 69th Ave, right on Snell St., and right on 75th Ave returning to San Leandro St.
- Passenger loading, accessible loading, and accessible parking will return to their normal locations on Northbound San Leandro St.
- All buses, for both directions of travel, will stop on Northbound San Leandro St.
Additional work, including signage and roadway striping will take place beyond these dates, but will have minimal impact on getting to and from the station.
We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
Single Tracking Alert: Service to be reduced from two tracks to one from El Cerrito Plaza to Richmond stations Saturday evening, August 23, from 10:30pm-8am
Starting at 10:30pm Saturday, August 23, BART workers will need to enter the trackway to replace aging rail between El Cerrito Plaza and Richmond stations. To ensure the work can be done safely, service through the project area will be reduced from two tracks to one between those stations. Riders in the area should expect delays of 30-40 minutes. No delays are anticipated from this work when BART begins its normal Sunday service at 8am.

Bus Bridge Alert: Free buses replace trains between Rockridge and Lafayette April 27-28
BART crews will work around the clock to advance several trackway improvements near Orinda Station on the weekend of April 27-28. To create a safe environment for the team, there will be no train service between Rockridge and Lafayette stations that weekend. Instead, free buses provided by AC Transit and County Connection will move riders between Rockridge, Orinda, and Lafayette stations. Orinda Station will be closed but buses will still serve the station. Riders can expect delays of 20-30 minutes in the work area on the shutdown weekend of April 27-28.
Bus service for bicyclists
In addition to the original bus bridge service plan, AC Transit will be providing their longer, articulated buses to carry bicyclists to Orinda Station Saturday morning. The longer buses will accommodate any bikes that don't fit on regular County Connection buses. The additional AC Transit buses will operate between Rockridge, Orinda, and Lafayette from 6-7:30am Saturday. There will be both 40 foot and 60 foot buses that will be serving Rockridge and Lafayette all day. Both types of buses will allow bikes inside and on the racks. We will fill the 40 foot buses first because they were already scheduled to go to Orinda. Anytime those fill up and we need more capacity, we will fill a 60 foot bus with bikes and have it make a stop at Orinda. Those buses will be available all day, if necessary.
Additional service impacts
On each night of the weekend shutdowns the last scheduled departure from Antioch to Lafayette that normally leaves at 11:54pm will be cancelled. Riders traveling westbound from Antioch must catch the earlier train at 11:34pm each night.
The work team will make the most of its time in the closed trackway. Crews will replace aging rail, install new equipment to support the traction power system, enhance lighting in the Berkeley Hills Tunnel, and advance other key improvements. The equipment being replaced is decades old and has outlived its design life. Riders will enjoy a smoother, safer, more reliable, and quieter ride once the projects are complete.
This upcoming work is part of BART’s overall effort to improve the safety and reliability of the 131-mile, 50 station system. There are now more rebuilding projects happening across BART than at any point in its 50-year history. You can learn more about the progress of this work by reading the 2023 Measure RR Annual Report published by the independent Measure RR Bond Oversight Committee.
You can keep up with the latest updates for trackway repair projects that impact service by going to our Alerts and Advisories page. BART’s Trip Planner has been improved to show the full customer journey including bus bridges.

Parking rate changes effective January 1, 2026
Starting January 1, 2026, BART parking rates will be changing to reflect inflation and demand-based adjustments, in line with BART’s Parking Pricing Policy.
- Daily Fee Parking: Rates will increase by 40 cents at most stations for inflation. At high-demand stations (Glen Park, MacArthur, Rockridge, and Walnut Creek), rates will increase by 30% per policy.
- Reserved Parking (Monthly and Single/Multi-day): Prices will increase at three high-demand stations (Millbrae, San Bruno, and Walnut Creek). Prices will decrease at nine lower-demand stations (Colma, Concord, El Cerrito del Norte, Dublin/Pleasanton, Fremont, Pittsburg/Bay Point, Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre, South San Francisco, and West Dublin/Pleasanton). Seven stations (Bay Fair, Coliseum, Hayward, North Concord/Martinez, Richmond, South Hayward, and Warm Springs/South Fremont) will have small increases due to inflation.
All transactions made on or after January 1, 2026, will reflect the new prices. Any reservations (Single/Multi-Day or Monthly Reserved) made before January 1, 2026, regardless of reservation dates, will reflect the price at time of purchase. Current monthly parking holders’ reservations will be renewed on January 15 for February and will be charged at the new prices.
BART’s current funding model heavily relies on fares and parking fees to run service and provide maintenance and police patrols in our parking areas. BART fares will also increase 6.2% on January 1, 2026, to keep pace with inflation so the agency is able to pay for continued operations and to work toward restoring financial stability.
Fares will increase 6.2 % on New Year’s Day based upon actual inflation in 2023 and 2024.
BART currently offers a 50% fare discount to qualifying low-income riders through the Clipper Start program. Visit Discounts | Bay Area Rapid Transit to learn more about additional fare discounts available. Parking discounts/commuter benefits may also be available through your employer.
Pay for parking on the official BART app, online or at machines inside stations with debit, credit or cash. Additional parking questions? Please visit BART’s Parking Overview Page or our FAQs.
