Strategic indicator: Operating cost per passenger mile
Goal: Ensure BART's revenues and investments support a sustainable and resilient system
BART measures the efficiency of its operations by calculating the average operating cost per passenger mile traveled on the system. Our long-term target is to keep the annual increase in the operating cost per passenger mile to at or below the typical rate of inflation, which is 2.2%. One of the main ways BART can improve efficient use of the system is by encouraging ridership during the evenings and weekends.
About this data
Operating cost per passenger mile includes all BART costs necessary to operate and maintain the system, divided by the total number of miles that passengers travel.
