Many kinds of workers are needed to keep BART running smoothly, but certain workers play a particularly critical role, especially those in specialized technical fields like train controller and elevator/escalator technicians. Competition for employees in these fields is high, so BART works to retain these employees and support new workers to develop the right skills, such as through the BART Transit Career Ladders training program, which involves introducing transit careers and helping college students to become more competitive for careers at BART. Our long-term target is to keep turnover in critical positions below 6%.
